Beige Porcelain Kitchen Floor in an Adair Park Bungalow

Bright white kitchen with polished beige floor tile and marble backsplash in an Adair Park bungalow renovation

About This Project

A kitchen renovation in one of Adair Park's 1920s craftsman bungalows, where the original wood plank floor was replaced with a polished beige porcelain tile. The tile is a 24x24 format with a subtle marble veining pattern and a polished finish that reflects the abundant natural light in the kitchen's south-facing windows.

The wood subfloor in this Adair Park bungalow had the typical characteristics of its era: 3/4-inch tongue-and-groove pine planks over floor joists with some deflection between joists. Before any tile could go down, a layer of 1/2-inch cement board was installed over the existing subfloor with screws on 6-inch centers and seams taped with fiberglass mesh tape. The layout was set from the center of the kitchen island position so the most trafficked area of the floor has full tiles with cut pieces pushed to the walls at the perimeter.
