Gray Marble Tub Surround in Capitol View
About This Project
A bathroom tile installation in a Capitol View home where the existing bathtub had never had tile surrounding it — the walls had been painted drywall, which had accumulated years of moisture damage. The project replaced the damaged drywall with cement board and installed a large-format gray marble-look porcelain tile on all three walls of the tub enclosure.
Because this was a first-time tile installation in this bathroom rather than a replacement, the scope included removing the painted drywall, inspecting the framing, and installing proper tile backer board before any tile work began. The framing behind the tub end wall had some moisture discoloration from years of splash exposure without a proper tile surface — this was dried and treated with a mold-inhibiting primer before cement board was installed. The gray tile in a staggered horizontal pattern gives the bathroom a clean, contemporary look without requiring a full renovation of the rest of the space.
