Walk-In Shower with Hex Mosaic Floor in West End
About This Project
A walk-in shower conversion in a West End bathroom, where the original tub-shower combo was removed and replaced with a curbless walk-in shower. The wall tile is a 12x24 white marble-look porcelain set in a horizontal running bond pattern. The floor is a 2-inch hexagonal Calacatta mosaic on mesh backing, which allowed for a tighter mosaic layout on the sloped shower floor.
The curbless entry required a precisely set mud bed to establish the correct 1/4-inch-per-foot slope toward the center drain across the entire shower floor. The linear drain option was considered but the homeowner preferred the classic center drain with a radial mosaic layout. A recessed niche was built into the wall at shoulder height and received the same hex mosaic tile as the floor, waterproofed on all six interior surfaces before tile was applied.
