Master Bath Calacatta Marble Renovation in West End
About This Project
This was a full master bathroom renovation in a renovated West End home, where the owners wanted large-format Calacatta marble-look porcelain on every tiled surface — all four walls, the tub deck surround, and the shower floor. The tile is a 24x48 inch format, which requires back-buttering every piece to achieve the 95% coverage that prevents hollow spots from forming under such large slabs.
The tub deck framing was built out to accept the tile overhang at the correct height, and waterproof membrane was applied at all tub-to-wall transitions before tile was set. The layout was planned so the veining in adjacent tiles would roughly continue across joints for a more continuous slab appearance. Matching the tile to a West End home's renovated interior required careful attention to the grout color selection — a light gray grout was used to keep the joints visible without competing with the tile's natural gray veining.
